EPISODE #60 – LIFE, DEATH, AND MEANING
Tim Bishop2021-09-01T20:32:15+00:00LIFE, DEATH, AND MEANING
Professor of Psychology Sheldon Solomon converses with Tim
on a subject very few of us contemplate: death. Both share a keen interest in
the topic, and here they share their combined interests on the concept from two
directions: one business, one scientific, and all from the same source.
From sharing their thoughts on the author Ernst Becker and
his book, The Denial of Death, both Tim and Sheldon show that which
underlines the majority of human action lies in death-anxiety: the fear
of death. Following on from this start, they extrapolate and give key examples
on the consequences of ignoring this quite simple and shared end for all us.
In this podcast we learn the importance of confronting
death. By not talking about it we deny it and thus life itself. The only way to
truly deny death is to accept it and live life to the fullest, becoming the
authentic version of ourselves in service of others.
